Stage 4a: Casas de Benalí – La Muela (Quesa) (21/02/2023)

Today’s stage from Casas de Benalí  to La Muela (Quesa) is a bit boring because the path is really a large unpaved road. The scenery is great, a bit of an eyesore some of the windmills (wind turbines) that you can see in the distance but we need the energy that they generates so can’t complain really. Spain has quite a lot of wind farms and wind power generators are dotted all over the landscape.

I walked extremely fast because it was easy walking. You start off going downhill on this very wide track. I imagine that any vehicle with good tyres and four wheel drive would be able to bomb along this track. Initially, walking downhill, you get to the Rio Grande (sounds like something out of a Spaghetti Western). The problem with the Rio Grande is it doesn’t have any water which is a bit disappointing, especially as it’s called Rio Grande. You can tell that it was probably fairly big at some stage in history because the riverbed is quite wide. Once you’ve hit the bottom of the valley and got to the Rio Grande, it is just a matter of climbing back up again on the other side. The walk was enjoyable, but not exciting, there were no real challenges.
